Random Friday-ness: Episode 17

What up??? How has the week been?

Mine? Glad you asked…it has been AWESOME!!

As I told you in the last episode, Paul and I were in NYC last weekend to see U2 play their last gig of the North American tour at Madison Square Garden. To say it was epic would be an understatement.

To say it was probably the best weekend ever would be pretty much on target!

So if you hate your life and want everyone else to hate their life too…then you should probably stop reading right now because I love my life everyday, but WOW this past weekend I was truly living the dream and I am going to tell you all about it in this episode of Random-ness…

Random #1 – train is the way to get from Newark Liberty to the city – only $12.50

Random #2 – Pre-U2 show meal…uh Chipotle, duh! Huge line up was no deterrent, we were committed. I had the bowl, Paul had the burrito, but wished he had the bowl. Listen people, the bowl is the way to go!

Random #3 – Pre-U2 show trek through Central Park – beautiful at any time, but I think I prefer it in the fall and winter when you can see the twisted architecture of the American Elms along the Mall without all those pesky leaves.

Random #4 – The Wollman Rink in Central Park is a mini-carnival thing in the summer, never knew that. It looked like chaotic madness.

Random #5 – Pre-U2 pints at the aptly named Rattle ‘N Hum which has one of the best selections of craft beer that I have found in mid-town. Got our favourite spot in the front window.

Random #7 – show was the best ever – played my favourite all-time U2 song that they hardly ever play live. “This is a song called Party Girl…” You know it? It sounded exactly like THIS…

Random #6 – Our second time going General Admission at a U2 show – people are pretty well behaved except for the guys that try to weasel up to the front as the show goes on by pretending their are just going to back to their spot – um no. Since I tend to bounce non-stop at U2 shows one such weasel had his foot stomped on about 15 times before he retreated – much to my joy and amusement.

Random #8 – thought the night could not get any better…and then Springsteen walked on stage. Mind. Blown!

Random #9 – Saturday’s in August Park Ave is closed to traffic from Central Park to the Brooklyn Bridge so we hopped on the CitiBikes and wheeled all the way down to Lower Manhattan – it was awesome!

Random #10 – am I missing something or does the new Apple iMusic kinda bite?

I could go on and on and on about the weekend. Hanging out with the love of my life in one of our favourite cities to see our favourite band on a beautiful summer weekend. No one deserves as much, but I am glad we had the opportunity!
